This document is a Framework Cooperation Agreement signed on March 20, 2020, between the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and the National Council for Science, Technology and Technological Innovation (CONCYTEC) of Peru. The agreement establishes a formal structure for collaboration to enhance regional and national synergies in global change research across the Americas.

The Nineteenth Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) agreed to expand the IAI Directorate's capacity to provide scientific knowledge for public policy and increase public awareness through a distributed structure hosted by Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay.

This Letter of Agreement establishes a flexible framework for collaboration between the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BPBES). The primary focus of the agreement is to create synergies between the BPBES Voluntary Young Researcher Program (VYRP) and the IAI Science, Technology and Policy (STeP) Fellowship program to bridge the gap between scientific research and policy-making regarding global environmental change.

The agreement establishes a formal institutional framework for technical and institutional cooperation to promote sustainable and inclusive development in Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on areas such as energy sustainability, water management, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
