MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE DIRECTORATE OF THE INTER-AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH AND THE ALLIANCE FOR JUST DELIBERATION ON SOLAR GEOENGINEERING (DSG)

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on October 8, 2024, establishing a collaboration between the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and the Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering (DSG) to enhance capacity and political engagement regarding solar geoengineering, particularly for vulnerable countries in the Americas.

• The partnership between the IAI and DSG aims to prepare IAI member states for participation in international multilateral forums regarding solar geoengineering by enhancing political engagement and capacity-building, with a specific focus on countries most vulnerable to climate change.
• The parties have identified four primary areas of cooperation: the co-organization of capacity building workshops on climate interventions, the co-production of knowledge products such as reports and case studies, the dissemination of information to IAI parties, and the sharing of research funding opportunities related to solar geoengineering.
• The MoU is valid for an initial period of two years from the date of the last signature (October 8, 2024) and will automatically renew for successive two-year periods unless a party provides written notice of non-renewal at least three months before expiration.
• The agreement mandates that all activities and financial arrangements must comply with the legal and regulatory requirements of both the United States and Uruguay.
