MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE DIRECTORATE OF THE INTER-AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH AND THE ALLIANCE FOR JUST DELIBERATION ON SOLAR GEOENGINEERING (DSG)

The IAI and DSG have entered into a two-year renewable agreement to cooperate on solar geoengineering (SG) governance and research. The partnership focuses on preparing IAI member states, particularly those most vulnerable to climate change, for participation in multilateral forums. Planned activities include co-organizing capacity-building workshops, co-producing knowledge products, and sharing research funding opportunities. The agreement outlines protocols for financial responsibilities, confidentiality, and dispute resolution through amicable negotiation.

• The collaboration aims to enable IAI member states to participate meaningfully in international solar geoengineering deliberations, with a specific focus on enhancing political engagement for countries most vulnerable to climate change.
• The parties have identified four primary areas of cooperation: delivering capacity-building workshops on climate interventions, developing joint knowledge products such as reports and case studies, disseminating information to IAI parties, and sharing research funding opportunities for solar geoengineering.
• The agreement is valid for an initial period of two years and will automatically renew for successive two-year periods unless one party provides written notice of non-renewal at least three months before expiration.
