This report by Krutham, commissioned by the African Climate Foundation, evaluates the role of climate risk insurance in Kenya. This thesis examines how service design can be applied to development interventions in low and middle-income countries to improve environmental sustainability and social well-being. Using case studies from Kenya and Uganda, the research demonstrates that service design tools—such as prototyping, archetype construction, and participatory backcasting—can identify user value, enhance local agency, and map future development pathways. This report describes a participatory workshop conducted in February 2020 by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Hivos with residents of non-grid connected villages in Machakos county, Kenya. This report by the Stockholm Environment Institute describes a participatory backcasting exercise conducted with a rural off-grid community in Machakos County, Kenya. The study aimed to co-develop a transition pathway to achieve 100% electric cooking by 2030, exploring the behavioral, cultural, and infrastructural changes required from the perspective of rural households.

This research paper examines the governance challenges associated with the water-energy-food (WEF) nexus approach, which seeks to manage the interdependencies between these three sectors to enhance sustainability and climate resilience. Drawing on research from Indonesia, Kenya, and the Amazon basin, the author argues that the effectiveness of nexus approaches is heavily dependent on horizontal (cross-sectoral) and vertical (between levels of government) coordination, which are often hindered by political economy factors, institutional power struggles, and limited local capacity.

This case study describes a peer-to-peer exchange between Nepal and Kenya focused on devolved climate finance and locally-led adaptation (LLA). It examines the challenges Nepal faces in accessing climate finance at the municipal level and explores how Kenya's Financing Locally-Led Climate Actions (FLLoCA) model and County Climate Change Funds (CCCF) could provide a blueprint for Nepal to empower local governments and communities in climate resilience efforts.

Natural Justice submitted written comments to the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) challenging the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed Nairobi Expressway Project. The organization argues that the ESIA is fundamentally flawed due to the absence of a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), inadequate baseline data, a lack of alternatives analysis, and insufficient public participation, concluding that the report cannot serve as a reasonable basis for issuing an EIA Licence.
