A case study in Las Tunas province, Cuba, using the CARiDRO tool and RCM simulations, projects that drought events between 2011 and 2050 will be more frequent, intense, and prolonged than those seen in 2003-2005. The study finds that the frequency of moderate to extreme droughts lasting four or more months will increase to 12-18 occurrences, driven by reduced precipitation and increased evaporation due to rising temperatures. The findings underscore the importance of water management strategies, including water saving and evaporation controls, to adapt to these projected climate extremes.
