WRI Results Framework

The WRI Results Framework is a strategic document that maps the organization's goals, intervention targets, and impact indicators across three primary human systems: food, land & water; energy; and cities. It establishes a hierarchy of results from global targets (by 2030) to WRI intervention targets (by 2027) and specific country-level targets, all designed to improve human well-being, protect nature, and tackle climate change.

• WRI's strategy focuses on three interconnected global goals: improving human well-being, protecting nature, and tackling climate change, which are supported by shifting three 'enabling systems': "economics, finance and governance".
• For the food, land and water system, WRI aims to achieve several 2030 global targets, including reducing the demand for agricultural land by 100 Mha, boosting food and fiber supply by 20%, and lowering agricultural production GHG emissions by 20%. Other goals include halting the loss of forests and natural ecosystems and getting 350 Mha of degraded areas into restoration.
• WRI's 2027 intervention targets for food, land and water include improving management across 3 Mha of agricultural lands, reducing the conversion rate of natural ecosystems in selected areas by at least 60%, and getting 33 Mha of degraded areas into restoration.
• In the energy sector, WRI's 2027 intervention targets include a 9% increase in the share of electricity from zero-carbon sources in target geographies and providing 2 million underserved people with new access to reliable, affordable, clean energy.
• WRI's energy targets include specific country goals by 2027, such as a 25% average increase in zero-carbon electricity across five states in India and a 10% average increase across three states in the US.
• For cities, WRI's 2027 intervention targets include increasing the percentage of residents with access to open public spaces by more than 5 percentage points and decreasing the percentage of urban residents in slums or inadequate housing by more than 5 percentage points in priority cities.
• WRI's urban mobility targets for 2027 include a more than 4 percentage point increase in convenient access to public transport in priority cities, a more than 500% increase in e-buses, and the implementation of over 300 km of safer roads globally.
• The framework utilizes a 'Theory of Change' for all country intervention targets, which is described as a "set of hypotheses for how change is expected to occur in a particular context" and is regularly updated.
