ISS African Futures

This report forecasts the development of Guinea-Bissau through 2043. While the 'Current Path' predicts economic growth and urbanization, it also projects persistent poverty. Various sectoral scenarios suggest that improvements in agriculture, trade, and stability could significantly boost GDP per capita and reduce extreme poverty, culminating in a 'Combined Agenda 2063' scenario where GDP reaches US$16.4 billion and poverty drops to 14.9%.

• Under the Current Path forecast, Guinea-Bissau's population is expected to grow from 1.9 million in 2019 to 3.2 million by 2043. The country is projected to reach rural-urban parity by 2036, with 53% of the population living in urban areas by 2043.
• The Current Path forecast predicts GDP will quadruple to US$7.3 billion by 2043, with GDP per capita rising to US$3,967. The service sector is expected to be the largest contributor to GDP (49.5%), followed by manufacturing (26.8%) and agriculture (11.3%).
