Food is Local FELLOWSHIP GUIDELINES

The 'Food is Local' fellowship by WWF International provides funding for master's and PhD students from 32 eligible countries to conduct interdisciplinary research on transforming food systems to be more sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient. Eligible applicants must be citizens of the listed countries, have two years of conservation experience, and plan to start their studies by January 2024. Research proposals are encouraged to cover themes such as agroecological practices, gender equity, and the role of food systems in achieving Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

• The fellowship targets research on food system transformation at the national level to address the intersection of environmental sustainability, equitable food distribution, and nutrition, noting that food is a "leading cause of environmental degradation and poor human health".
• WWF identifies several priority research themes for proposals, including the scaling-up of agroecological production, the role of food systems in meeting global biodiversity goals and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and the integration of traditional and indigenous knowledge.
• To be eligible, applicants must be citizens and legal permanent residents of one of 32 specified countries, possess at least two years of conservation-related experience, and be enrolled in or applying to a master's or PhD program globally, with studies beginning by January 2024.
