Zimbabwe

This report by the Institute for Security Studies analyzes Zimbabwe's development trajectory up to 2043, comparing a 'Current Path' (business-as-usual) against eight sectoral scenarios and a 'Combined scenario'. It evaluates the impact of interventions in demographics, health, agriculture, education, manufacturing, infrastructure, AfCFTA integration, financial flows, and governance on economic growth, poverty alleviation, and sustainability.

• Zimbabwe's GDP is projected to grow from US$19 billion in 2023 to US$27 billion by 2030 on the Current Path, with a potential reach of US$68 billion by 2043 if growth accelerates to 7% annually after 2030. However, the report notes that the country is unlikely to meet its Vision 2030 target of 7% to 10% annual growth without specific interventions.
• The manufacturing sector is identified as the most critical driver for economic growth and poverty reduction. In the Manufacturing scenario, the sector's contribution to GDP would increase to 18.5% by 2043, compared to 15.6% on the Current Path, and it would be the most effective individual scenario for reducing extreme poverty to 9% (2 million people) by 2043.
