10 -YEAR STRATEGY 2020 – 2030

The Green Economy Coalition (GEC) has established a 10-year action plan (2020–2030) to drive structural economic reform globally. The strategy identifies five systemic flaws in current economic models—including outdated metrics like GDP and short-termism in finance—and proposes five key interventions: reforming governance, financial systems, economic sectors, inequality, and the valuation of nature. To achieve these, GEC will pursue four pathways: telling new narratives, building critical mass through citizen dialogue, influencing policy via tools like the Green Economy Tracker, and transitioning to a decentralized 'network of networks' structure. The goal is to ensure that by 2030, inclusive green economy principles are central to decisions made by policymakers, business leaders, and citizens.

• The GEC identifies five 'system flaws' driving unsustainable economic behavior: the dominance of GDP and corporate profits as metrics, financial and political short-termism, a model based on overconsumption, the failure of 'trickle-down' economics to distribute wealth, and the failure of mainstream models to value natural and social assets.
• To address systemic flaws, the GEC proposes five key interventions: reorienting governance beyond GDP, reforming financial systems to integrate social and environmental priorities, greening sectors like energy, food, and transport, prioritizing a just transition for the poor, and valuing nature's services in decision-making.
• The GEC's 10-year strategy is built on two primary objectives: amplifying social demand for systemic reform to create public pressure on institutions by 2030, and inspiring the supply of policies and institutions that guide green transformation.
• The GEC implements its strategy through four pathways: co-developing new narratives to inspire action, expanding national dialogues to build critical mass (specifically targeting China, the USA, and Europe), using tools to influence policy and hold decision-makers accountable, and transitioning to a decentralized 'network of networks' governance model.
• The GEC has developed specific tools to monitor and drive the transition, including the Global Green Economy Barometer, which reviews trends from a civil society perspective, and the Green Economy Tracker, which benchmarks government progress across 20 key policies.
• The GEC has established operational hubs to influence reform in specific regions and countries, including India, Mongolia, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, and the Caribbean.
