Qual É o Risco Climático para os Produtores Rurais na Caatinga?

This report examines the high climate risk faced by rural producers in Brazil's Caatinga biome, highlighting that family farmers—who make up 79% of rural properties—are the most vulnerable. It finds that increased aridity leads to significant productivity losses in corn, beans, and livestock, while also correlating with severe long-term social impacts, including higher infant mortality, school delays, and poverty.

• The Caatinga biome is one of the six most vulnerable areas globally to climate variability and experiences more frequent and intense droughts than other Brazilian biomes. Its average annual precipitation is 930mm, which is 39% lower than in other biomes, and desertification is already occurring in 12.8% of the semi-arid region.
• Agricultural productivity in the Caatinga is historically lower than in other Brazilian biomes and has shown little to no growth over the last three decades. While other biomes saw productivity increases in corn and beans, the Caatinga did not, and livestock productivity actually declined, widening the gap with other regions.
