Quem Fica de Fora do Pronaf?

This methodological appendix describes the quantitative models used to analyze access to the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) in Brazilian municipalities, using data from the 2017 Agricultural Census.

• Linear regression models using 2017 Agricultural Census data indicate that the presence of cooperatives and Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER) in a municipality are positively associated with the share of family farmers accessing Pronaf.
• Regional analysis shows varying impacts on Pronaf access, with the South region showing a positive coefficient (0.06) and the North (-0.02), Northeast (-0.02), and Southeast (-0.01) regions showing negative coefficients.
• Simulation results suggest a significant positive interaction effect between ATER and cooperatives regarding access to Pronaf.
• Illiteracy was included as a control variable in the models but did not produce significant results for any of the regions analyzed.
