GHANA: CLIMATE CHANGE RISK COMMUNICATIONS FRAMEWORK FOR COASTAL URBAN DEVELOPMENT POLICY

The project utilized community-based participatory methods and the CRiSTAL tool to identify climate vulnerabilities in six Ghanaian communities, linking local findings to national policy discussions in Accra to improve coastal urban development and disaster management.

• The project employed a community-based approach involving six communities (three urban and three peri-urban) using a mix of innovative methods such as theatre and participatory learning alongside surveys and policy dialogues.
• The Community Based Risk Screening Tool – Adaptation and Livelihoods (CRiSTAL) was used to conduct climate change impact assessments, identifying social and economic vulnerabilities as well as internal community resources to reduce those vulnerabilities.
