The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) is an alliance of six organizations providing research, advisory services, and knowledge sharing to help developing countries integrate climate resilience and low-carbon growth into their national policies. • Developing countries require approximately USD 100 billion in climate financing for the 2010-2020 period to adapt to climate effects and transition to low-carbon paths, a goal agreed upon in the 2009 Copenhagen Accords, though funds remain only partially authorized and available.
• In Asia, CDKN focuses on bridging the gap between scientific, local, and policy-making communities to improve policy processes, particularly addressing the rapid increase in coal and oil use for electricity and the vulnerability of coastal populations to flooding.
• In Africa, CDKN views climate action as an opportunity to catalyze new climate-resilient infrastructure and supports the development of new pathways that address poverty while creating resilient economies.
• In Latin America and the Caribbean, CDKN addresses diverse challenges including sea-level rise and coastal erosion in the Caribbean, drought threats to Amazonian biodiversity, and glacier melt causing floods. It specifically supports urban land-use planning in Cartagena and Quito to increase city resilience.
• CDKN provides technical and legal support to negotiators from Least Developed Countries and Low-Income Countries to ensure their voices are influential in international climate negotiations, such as COP 17 in Durban.
