The project analyzes the connection between inland watersheds and coastal ecosystems in several Caribbean island nations. It utilizes hydrological modeling of 84 catchments to assess how land-cover, soil, and human activities—such as urban wastewater discharge in Puerto Rico and deforestation in the Dominican Republic—affect water quality and coastal resources.

The Caribbean Coastal Scenarios (CCS) project models the flow of water, sediments, and contaminants from inland watersheds to coastal ecosystems in several Caribbean island nations. Initial findings highlight the degradation of water quality due to dams, sewage, and deforestation, specifically noting wastewater treatment gaps in Puerto Rico and agricultural runoff in the Dominican Republic.

The report examines flood risk in Jamaica, noting that while tropical cyclones cause the largest losses, flooding is not strictly related to storm intensity but often to preceding rainfall. It highlights that public infrastructure, particularly roads and bridges, suffers the most damage. Despite repeated recommendations for hazard mapping and watershed management, the report finds a persistent lack of enforcement regarding 'no build zones' and a critical shortage of digital spatial data for planners.
