ECOWAS: Conclusion

This research paper concludes that while ECOWAS has made progress in regional integration, its current development trajectory is not transformative enough to address structural challenges such as insecurity, corruption, and economic instability. • Economic recommendations for the region include diversifying away from traditional agriculture and commodity exports toward tourism and creative arts, pursuing a monetary union via the creation of the ECO, and phasing out fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydro.
• Governance and social improvements should focus on sanctioning member states for constitutional breaches or electoral fraud, implementing land reformation policies for large-scale farming, and shifting education toward vocational and technical training to address youth unemployment.
