Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) of Nature-Based Infrastructure in Eswatini

This report by the Nature-Based Infrastructure Global Resource Centre provides an economic valuation of agroforestry activities in Eswatini, specifically within the Smallholder Agriculture Productivity Enhancement and Marketing Project (SAPEMP). • An NBI scenario involving 1,000 ha of agroforestry was implemented across three specific locations: the Sand River Dam and Hendrick Van Eck Dam in the Lubombo region, and the Maguga Dam in the Hhohho region.
• The economic assessment indicates that an investment of USD 1 in nature-based infrastructure (NBI) yields returns between USD 1.46 and 1.52 in environmental, societal, and economic benefits, including carbon sequestration, job creation, increased crop production, and drought mitigation to avoid crop losses.
