Review of Current and Planned Adaptation Action in Namibia

This report provides an overview of climate risks, vulnerable sectors, and the implementation of adaptation policies and initiatives in Namibia, serving as a snapshot for the Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA).

• Climate change in Namibia interacts with population growth, severe inequality, and development trends, alongside rising temperatures, rising sea levels, increased evapotranspiration, and changing rainfall patterns, to worsen existing vulnerabilities and water scarcity.
• The Namibian government has identified six sectors as being particularly vulnerable to climate change: health, tourism, disaster risk management, water and wetlands, agriculture, and fisheries, the coastal zone, and sea level rise.
• While the government has passed a national climate change policy, the momentum for climate action is heavily dependent on funding and interest from donors, and there are currently limited adaptation networks, communities of practice, and projects in the country.
