A Sustainable Asset Valuation of a Bus Rapid Transit System in Bandung, Indonesia

This report presents a Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) assessment of a proposed city-wide bus rapid transit (BRT) system in Bandung, Indonesia, designed to reduce reliance on individual motorized transport and lower carbon emissions.

• The proposed BRT system in Bandung is projected to be highly profitable, with cumulative discounted net benefits of USD 2.02 billion between 2022 and 2050, using a 3.5% discount rate.
• When accounting for the full range of benefits for the city, the BRT system yields an integrated benefit-cost ratio of 6.67 per USD 1 invested.
• The most significant positive added benefits of the BRT system include reduced traffic and congestion leading to time savings for users, increased retail revenues near stations, and health improvements resulting from decreased air pollution and increased physical activity.
• Bandung, Indonesia's third-largest city with approximately 2.5 million people, currently suffers from a congested urban road network over-reliant on motorcycles, leading to high traffic volumes, safety concerns, and carbon dioxide emissions.
