Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) of Mangroves in Vietnam

This report evaluates the economic, social, and environmental benefits of planting a 70-hectare mangrove belt in Vietnam's DEEP C Industrial Zone to mitigate flood and erosion risks.

• Planting mangroves in the DEEP C Industrial Zone is projected to prevent up to VND 129.8 billion in flood damage over a 26-year period, serving as a complement to existing sea dikes for long-term protection.
• The economic valuation indicates that mangrove planting is viable, with the Soil Accumulation scenario yielding a return of up to VND 3.42 for every VND 1 invested, totaling net benefits exceeding VND 284 billion (USD 11.2 million).
• The project involves planting a 70-hectare mangrove belt along the Nam Dinh Vu Sea dike to protect infrastructure and the livelihoods of more than 12,000 residents and workers in the region.
• Beyond flood and erosion control, the initiative provides co-benefits including carbon storage, support for biodiversity, enhanced fisheries and tourism, increased property values, and the creation of green jobs.
