SCIENCE DIPLOMACY CENTER HYBRID ADVISORY BOARD MEETING Executive Summary Report

The IAI Science Diplomacy Center (SDC) Advisory Board met in March 2023 to refine the Center's strategic framework and identify flagship activities. The SDC aims to enhance the capacity of IAI member states to address global change through a science diplomacy knowledge hub, regional training for policymakers, and improved science-policy communication. Proposed priority actions include landscape analyses of scientific information flow in government and the development of training courses on negotiation and science diplomacy. The SDC intends to co-design its three-year working plan with member states, utilizing engagement at CoP 31 to ensure initiatives meet regional needs.

• The SDC's revised mission is to increase the capacity of IAI member states to achieve the IAI Strategic Plan and Sustainable Development Goals by improving the science-policy interface, creating a science diplomacy knowledge hub, and implementing equitable programs for the Americas to tackle global change.
• The SDC identified several priority activities, including conducting a landscape analysis of how scientific information is converted into policy within governments and a scoping exercise on existing 'Climate Action' information synthesis for the Americas, specifically regarding food security, agriculture, oceans, water, and disaster risk reduction.
• The Center plans to develop a Science Diplomacy Knowledge Hub to provide government officials and diplomats with access to regional case studies, scientific literature, and national strategies, potentially using the REDD+ digital platform as a template.
• The SDC intends to engage member states in co-designing its flagship activities for the next three years, including hosting virtual calls and a side event at CoP 31 to ensure member states are co-owners of the initiatives.
