Adenda_documento 7 CE-XVII & CoP-X

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) has updated its Scientific Agenda to better reflect regional interests and the evolution of global change research. The agenda is organized into four broad themes: understanding climate variability in the Americas, conducting comparative studies of ecosystems and biodiversity, analyzing changes in the composition of the atmosphere and waters, and investigating the human dimensions and policy implications of global change. The IAI aims to promote cooperative research and information exchange to understand the integrated impact of past, present, and future global change on regional and continental environments in the Americas.

• The IAI's Scientific Agenda is designed to be dynamic and evolve to incorporate new scientific priorities and the changing needs of countries in the region.
• The first research theme focuses on observing and predicting climate variability in the Americas, specifically examining ocean-land-atmosphere interactions and their social impacts. Key areas include Tropical Atlantic Variability (TAV), El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), and the development of an American component for a Global Climate Observing System.
• The second theme involves comparative and integrated analyses of global environmental change across tropical, temperate, and cold latitudes, with a focus on biodiversity, food security, and the provision of ecological goods and services.
• The third theme addresses the chemical composition of the atmosphere, oceans, and fresh waters, including the impact of mega-cities on regional climate, greenhouse gases, and ozone depletion at high latitudes.
• The fourth theme examines the interaction between global change, climate variability, land use, and human health and wellbeing, aiming to inform public policies that increase the sustainability of natural systems.
