• The IAI has planned two training institutes for 2005 with funding of $330,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF): one in Jamaica regarding 'Vulnerability associated with Climate Change and variability' and one in Paraguay regarding 'Climate and Health'.
• The IAI faced significant administrative challenges regarding the salaries of local staff in Brazil, where a contractual change led to a 40% decrease in income and reduced benefits. A temporary solution was negotiated to prevent the loss of personnel.
• The IAI is implementing a new Data and Information System (DIS) developed in cooperation with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to improve the control of data produced within its scientific projects.
• The IAI attempted to recover funds from project CRN 038 from CATHALAC. Despite agreements to return the money, the funds were not received, leading the Interim Director to suggest legal action as the only remaining recourse.
