Green Economy Coalition Vision, goals, who we are, why we matter, our ToC

The Green Economy Coalition (GEC) is a global alliance of over 50 organisations dedicated to accelerating the transition to a green, fair, and inclusive economy. The GEC operates through a theory of change focused on global advocacy, collaborative policy across five thematic areas, the mobilisation of national dialogues via regional hubs, and the expansion of its network of allies.

• The GEC defines its vision as achieving prosperity for all within the limits of one planet, with the primary goal of accelerating the transition toward an economy that is green, fair, and inclusive. To achieve this, the coalition focuses on three functional purposes: connecting diverse stakeholders (business, civil society, government, and people), communicating stories of change to debunk economic myths, and influencing decision-makers to champion the voices of the excluded.
• The GEC's theory of change is implemented through four core activities: creating a compelling story of change via global advocacy and knowledge platforms; stimulating collaborative policy in five specific thematic areas; mobilising national leadership through dialogue; and strengthening its network of members and partners.
• The coalition focuses its policy work on five thematic action areas: Measuring and Governing (aligning national wealth with SDGs), Reforming Financial Systems (supporting finance reform to protect nature), Greening Economic Sectors (specifically energy, agrifood, transport, and infrastructure), Tackling Inequality (ensuring informal actors are represented), and Valuing Nature (integrating green economy and natural capital communities).
• The GEC describes itself as the world's largest movement for green and fair economies, comprising more than 50 organisations, including NGOs, businesses, research institutes, trade unions, and UN organisations. It operates national hubs in Mongolia, Senegal, Uganda, Peru, India, South Africa, and the Caribbean to facilitate dialogue and local understanding of green economies.
• The GEC set a strategic objective to double its size and impact by the year 2020. This growth strategy includes engaging new international organisations, securing additional funding for outreach, and strengthening its steering group and secretariat.
