Green Investment Opportunities in India

The report identifies near-term, economically viable green investment opportunities in India across six emerging sectors—battery energy storage, green hydrogen, climate-smart agriculture, lithium-ion battery recycling, water, and sustainable cooling—to guide the channeling of private and institutional capital over a three to five-year horizon.

• India faces a significant green finance gap, requiring USD 2.5 trillion by 2030 to meet its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), while current flows cover only one-third of this need. Achieving net-zero by 2070 involves a funding gap of nearly USD 10 trillion, which is three times the country's GDP.
• The Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector is expanding rapidly, with installed capacity increasing nearly six-fold from 51 MWh in 2023 to 341 MWh in 2024. Capacity is projected to reach 208 GWh by 2030. Investment opportunities are shifting toward Battery Management Systems (BMS), which saw funding grow from USD 5.5 million in 2022 to USD 11 million in 2024.
