Green Finance Mapping Report 2020

The Green Finance Mapping Report 2020, published by the Climate Policy Initiative, analyzes the 2019 green finance commitments of the International Development Finance Club (IDFC). • Non-OECD based institutions provided the majority of green finance in 2019, contributing $146 billion (74%), while OECD-based institutions committed $51 billion (26%).
• The East Asia and Pacific region received the largest share of green finance commitments at 69%. Western Europe and the EU region received the second largest amount at $30 billion (15%).
• Loans were the primary financial instrument used, accounting for $146 billion or 95% of total green finance. Grants increased to $4 billion (2%) in 2019.
• Finance for 'Other Environmental' objectives, which includes waste and water management and biodiversity, totaled $10 billion (5% of total green finance) in 2019.
• IDFC has set a target to provide more than $1 trillion of climate finance by 2025 and is working to align financial flows with the Paris Agreement through the IDFC Climate Facility and a partnership with the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
• Nine institutions reported co-financing data, totaling approximately $30 billion mobilized from other public and private institutions. Private institutions provided $7 billion of this co-financing.
