The GESI (gender and social inclusion) bingo game Facilitator/trainer instructions

This document provides facilitator and trainer instructions for the GESI (gender and social inclusion) bingo game, a training tool designed to help project managers implement inclusive measures within climate projects and programmes.

• The GESI bingo game is designed to encourage project managers of climate projects and programmes to identify and commit to voluntary or discretionary measures that increase inclusivity. The game specifically avoids focusing on the enforcement of formal employment laws, such as mandatory maternity or paternity leave.
• Facilitators are instructed to customize the game cards based on the specific context of the trainees. Cards that are completely irrelevant to the project implementation environment should be removed, although facilitators are encouraged to keep 'stretching' measures that participants may not have yet considered.
• The game can be played in two versions: a slower, seated version and a faster version involving movement. In the seated version, players in pairs or small groups draw cards and record on an answer sheet whether they already apply the measure or could apply it. In the faster version, suitable for groups of 20 or fewer, players post their commitments on a shared visual, such as a drawing of a tree or a whiteboard titled 'Our commitments to be inclusive'.
• The game's objective is for players to accumulate a specific number of inclusive actions—typically three, though the facilitator may increase this to five to encourage deeper discussion—before shouting 'bingo!'.
• The provided game cards cover a wide range of inclusivity measures, including physical accessibility (e.g., wheelchair and pushchair access, sign language interpretation), gender-specific needs (e.g., breastfeeding and menstruation facilities, gender-disaggregated data), and social protections (e.g., addressing domestic violence and sexual harassment).
• The game includes measures to address systemic gender inequality in climate projects, such as targeting micro-credit and skills training specifically to women and girls, and implementing gender-responsive budgeting.
