Reporting for Results-based REDD+

The Reporting for Results-based REDD+ (RRR+) project is a three-year initiative (2017-2019) led by the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN) and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN). It aims to build the capacity of 21 tropical and subtropical forest countries to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions and carbon stocks in agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU) to the UNFCCC, thereby enabling them to access results-based REDD+ finance.

• The Reporting for Results-based REDD+ (RRR+) project is a three-year effort designed to build capacity for measuring greenhouse gas emissions reductions and enhancing carbon stocks in agriculture, forest and other land use (AFOLU) across 21 tropical and subtropical forest countries.
• REDD+ is a UNFCCC-developed mechanism that provides financial incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands by creating financial value for stored carbon, allowing them to receive results-based payments for conservation and restoration.
• A significant barrier to the large-scale implementation of REDD+ initiatives is the lack of data accumulation systems and capacity gaps in developing countries regarding the analysis and accurate reporting of AFOLU emissions, which are required for results-based finance.
• The project's activities from 2017-2019 focus on training technical specialists in IPCC-endorsed methods to produce robust greenhouse gas inventories and supporting countries in reporting these to the UNFCCC through National Communication and Biennial Update Report cycles.
• The project targets technical specialists, primarily within government agencies, but also encourages the participation of civil society, businesses, investors, researchers, and subnational governments to improve the understanding of forest and land use trends.
• According to the IPCC, emissions from agriculture, forestry, and other land uses account for approximately 25% of all global emissions, making the halting of deforestation and the acceleration of reforestation critical for meeting the Paris Agreement's temperature goals.
