Climate and Development Knowledge Network Helping developing countries to design and deliver climate compatible development

The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) is a demand-led alliance of NGOs, a think tank, and a private sector firm that provides research, advisory services, and knowledge sharing to help developing countries achieve low-carbon, climate-resilient futures. Operating in over 40 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean, CDKN focuses on four strategic themes: development strategies, access to climate finance, disaster risk management, and support for climate negotiators from vulnerable nations. The network has supported policy changes in 23 countries and manages an annual disbursement of £20 million.

• CDKN operates through a demand-led model, responding to requests for expertise from national governments and regional or global networks to ensure ownership by developing country decision-makers.
• The network focuses on four primary strategic areas: creating climate compatible development plans, improving access to climate finance, enhancing resilience via disaster risk management, and assisting negotiators from the most climate-vulnerable and least developed countries.
• Within two years of operation, CDKN has worked in more than 40 countries across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia, disbursing £20 million annually and supporting policy changes in 23 countries.
• CDKN has implemented specific projects to integrate climate change into national planning, such as shifting the climate debate from an environmental issue to a core economic planning issue in Colombia, Peru, Kenya, and Rwanda.
• The network provides legal and technical support to vulnerable nations, including providing over 100 cases of legal advice to negotiators at UN climate talks and helping Anguilla transition its power sector to renewable energy.
