Climate and Development Knowledge Network Helping developing countries to design and deliver climate compatible development

The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) is a South and North-led alliance that provides research, advisory services, and knowledge sharing to help developing countries implement climate compatible development. The network focuses on bridging climate change and development policy to achieve low-carbon, climate-resilient futures while reducing poverty.

• CDKN operates as a demand-led alliance comprising PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano, SouthSouthNorth, LEAD (International and Pakistan), and INTRAC. The network utilizes a Roster of Experts containing over 400 individuals from 80 countries to provide expertise to national governments and global networks.
• The organization focuses its work on four primary strategic themes: creating climate compatible development strategies and plans, improving access to climate finance for developing countries, strengthening resilience via climate-related disaster risk management, and providing support to climate negotiators from the most climate-vulnerable and least developed countries.
• Within its first two years of operation, CDKN has worked in more than 40 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean, disbursing £20 million annually. The network reports supporting policy change in 23 countries, specifically helping nations like Colombia, Peru, Kenya, and Rwanda transition the climate change debate from an environmental issue to a core economic planning issue.
• CDKN has implemented several specific regional projects, including supporting the Government of Bangladesh in addressing climate-related loss and damages, assisting the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre with an Implementation Plan endorsed by 18 governments, and funding a project to transition the power sector in Anguilla to renewable energy.
• The network supports capacity building and policy integration through various partnerships. This includes working with the Alliance for Climate Change Resilience in Africa (ACCRA) to integrate climate adaptation into local development plans in Mozambique, Uganda, and Ethiopia, and collaborating with the Punjab Disaster Management Authority in Pakistan to create guidelines for energy-efficient and climate-resilient infrastructure.
