This report defines Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture and Forestry (UPAF) and outlines its potential role in climate change adaptation and mitigation, while noting a lack of detailed analysis on which specific UPAF models are most effective for different city configurations.

• Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture and Forestry (UPAF) encompasses the production of food, trees, and other agricultural goods—including livestock, aquaculture, and agroforestry—within urban build-up and peri-urban areas, integrating into the broader city-region food system.
• UPAF occurs in diverse settings such as rooftops, backyards, and flood-zones, and while it is expected to contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation, there is currently little to no analysis regarding which UPAF models are best suited for specific city configurations or which have the greatest climate impacts.
