From the ground up - How communities can collaborate to drive local adaptation and influence the national agenda

• Caribbean decision-makers are shifting away from 'top-down' adaptation approaches, recognizing that multi-level governance systems are the best practice for delivering local adaptation, particularly for communities dependent on climate-vulnerable sectors like tourism or fishing.
• Effective local adaptation requires a combination of interconnected approaches: analyzing local actor networks, conducting community-based vulnerability assessments, assessing local adaptive capacity, and linking these local actions to national and regional decision-making processes.
• While community-based approaches increase local awareness and provide insights for resilience, they are not effective in isolation and must be linked with national and regional governments to maximize their impact.
