• Africa's food systems are under severe pressure from intersecting crises, including chronic food insecurity affecting more than 852 million people and hunger experienced by 300 million. These systems are further strained by rapid urbanisation, which increases reliance on ultra-processed foods, and climate volatility, where droughts and erratic flooding threaten yields and supply chains.
• Agroecology is proposed as a justice-centred framework for transformation that integrates ecological science with social and economic reform. It promotes farming systems that conserve soil and water and reduce chemical dependence, while simultaneously addressing social dimensions such as secure land tenure, women's leadership, and participatory governance.
