This document summarizes a learning and strategy event held by the WWF South Africa Freshwater team from 7 to 9 February 2022. The event focused on integrating groundwater management into WWF's freshwater work, specifically within Strategic Water Source Areas, and defining the organization's role in partnerships to address the perceived lack of groundwater governance in South Africa.

This fact sheet describes the Northern Drakensberg Collaborative (NDC), a multistakeholder partnership formalised in May 2023 to improve the stewardship of water and natural resources in the Northern Drakensberg Strategic Water Source Area. The NDC focuses on addressing water insecurity, unequal water access, food security, and climate change resilience in a region critical for water supply to multiple South African provinces.
