The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is facilitating collaboration with the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) regarding baseline studies on stratospheric conditions and solar radiation modification.

The Americas Conference on Solar Radiation Modification, held in August 2022 in Kingston, Jamaica, served as a regional forum to introduce the science, governance, and implications of Solar Radiation Modification (SRM). The event brought together scientists, policymakers, and representatives from various Americas nations to discuss SRM as a potential supplement to climate mitigation, emphasizing the need for inclusive research, regional collaboration, and a risk-risk framework to evaluate the technology's potential benefits against the dangers of unchecked global warming.

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), in partnership with the Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering (DSG) and the Degrees Initiative, is organizing a workshop series for policymakers and negotiators in the Americas. The program aims to build scientific and governance capacity regarding solar radiation modification (SRM) to ensure equitable participation in multilateral climate deliberations as global temperatures exceed 1.5°C and emissions pledges remain insufficient.
