The LEAP-IBC is an integrated planning tool that allows governments to model emissions of greenhouse gases and short-lived climate pollutants to estimate resulting benefits for human health, crop yields, and global temperature. It combines LEAP emissions scenarios with the GEOS-Chem atmospheric model to provide national-scale estimates of avoided premature deaths and crop losses, and is currently available for 71 countries.

This fact sheet from the Environmental and Energy Study Institute explains the role of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs)—including black carbon, methane, tropospheric ozone, and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)—in global warming. It argues that while carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary driver of long-term climate change, reducing SLCPs can provide rapid, short-term benefits to slow the rate of warming and improve public health and food security.
