This report by the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) examines the state of democratic governance in Southern Africa, focusing on the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in countering democratic backsliding. Drawing on youth consultations and a comparative analysis of West African civil society networks, the report argues that cross-border solidarity and regional networks are essential for strengthening accountability and protecting human rights in the SADC region.

The Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) conducted a scoping analysis of cross-border guarantee instruments to understand their role in mobilizing private climate finance for emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). The study identified 52 instruments from 34 entities, finding that while guarantees are powerful tools for leveraging finance, the current landscape is fragmented, predominantly focused on debt and commercial risks, and lacks a strong emphasis on climate-exclusive mandates.

This report details a workshop held in Eschborn, Germany, from 3-5 June 2011, focused on improving collaboration among 'Climate Knowledge Brokers'—online initiatives that facilitate the sharing of climate and development information. Organised by CDKN, GIZ, and PIK, the event brought together 35 participants from 21 global and regional web initiatives to address 'portal proliferation syndrome', where fragmented and under-resourced platforms lead to duplicated efforts and information overload for users.
