Demo Day 2019

The Land Accelerator, supported by Germany's BMZ and the DOEN Foundation, provides technical knowledge and capital to entrepreneurs restoring degraded land. The 2019 Demo Day featured 14 African entrepreneurs from 8 countries presenting businesses focused on sustainable food, land use, and climate resilience.

• Developing sustainable food and land use business models is estimated to be worth up to US$2.3 trillion and could create more than 70 million jobs globally by 2030.
• The Land Accelerator is the first of its kind designed to support entrepreneurship in restoring degraded land to address climate change and promote sustainable economic growth, addressing the limited access to capital and technical knowledge faced by restoration businesses.
• The 2019 cohort included 14 entrepreneurs from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Niger, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, with businesses focusing on activities such as organic fertilizer production, biofuel from sugarcane waste, agroforestry, and land restoration offsets.
