What is the ACWA Platform?

The ACWA Platform is a pan-African alliance of 24 organizations and cities launched at COP27 to address water resilience in Africa. It aims to provide 29 million people across 100 cities with improved water services and protection from shocks by 2032. The platform offers a four-level engagement model: widening the discourse through community engagement, providing a resilience toolbox of analysis and planning tools, facilitating a community of practice for knowledge transfer, and operating gamechanger labs for place-based ideation and testing.

• The ACWA Platform is a pan-African alliance consisting of 24 organizations and cities that aims to deliver water resilience solutions to 100 African cities by 2032, with the goal of benefiting 29 million people through improved water services and protection from water-related shocks.
• The platform addresses critical urban water challenges in Africa, where water demand is projected to triple and the urban population is expected to more than double by 2050, leaving over two-thirds of cities facing extreme climate risks and water-related shocks.
• The ACWA Platform provides a 'Resilience toolbox' that includes technical advisory and analysis tools across several domains: water resilience planning (e.g., Vulnerability & Risk Assessment), digital solutions for utilities, water governance, green infrastructure and nature-based solutions, sanitation, solid waste, and the reduction of non-revenue water loss.
• The platform's operational model includes 'Widening the discourse' to center the perspectives of youth and vulnerable groups, a 'Community of practice' for knowledge dissemination and city networks, and 'Gamechanger labs'—such as The Water Hub in Franschhoek—for place-based testing and iteration of solutions.
