What is the ACWA Platform?

The ACWA Platform is a pan-African alliance of 24 organizations and cities launched at COP27 to provide technical assistance and investments for water resilience in 100 African cities by 2032.

• The ACWA Platform aims to provide 29 million people across 100 cities with improved water services, protection from water-related shocks, and a water-secure future by 2032. This initiative addresses projected trends for 2050, where water demand in Africa is expected to triple and the urban population is projected to more than double.
• The Platform provides partner cities with capacity-building and technical assistance to identify, design, and prepare innovative solutions for piloting and investment, with the goal of maturing water resilience programs for scaling.
• The ACWA Platform operates through four levels of engagement: Widening the Discourse, which uses community storytelling and participatory planning to center youth and vulnerable groups; a Resilience Toolbox providing analysis tools and advisory services across water resilience, digital solutions, governance, green infrastructure, sanitation, solid waste, and non-revenue water; a Community of Practice for knowledge transfer and learning; and Gamechanger Labs for place-based ideation and testing of solutions.
