Charting the Midwest

The report analyzes greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Utilizing the World Resources Institute's Climate Analysis Indicators Tool (CAIT-US), it examines all six Kyoto GHGs across the regional economy to overcome inconsistencies in previous state-level inventories. The analysis covers regional, sectoral, and state levels, assessing major emission sources, trends, and socioeconomic drivers to inform stakeholders on the Midwest's role in global climate change.

• The study is the first to analyze all six Kyoto greenhouse gases across the entire Midwest economy using a consistent and comparable data framework, addressing the challenge where previous state-level inventories used differing methodologies and data sources.
• The report's data is sourced exclusively from the CAIT-US module, with emission estimates for sectors based on fuel consumption, such as transportation and electric generation, generally being more certain than those for agriculture and forestry.
