CLIMATE FINANCE IN THE PACIFIC: AN OVERVIEW OF FLOWS TO THE REGION

This research paper appendix provides a detailed breakdown of climate finance flows to Vanuatu, focusing on allocations between 2010 and 2014, as well as specific multilateral fund activities between 2015 and 2016.

• Between 2010 and 2014, Vanuatu received US$49.4 million in grant or grant-equivalent finance specifically targeting climate change objectives. Additionally, US$148.6 million in Official Development Assistance (ODA) intended for other objectives was reported as having climate change co-benefits.
• Of the US$49.4 million in finance specifically targeting climate change from 2010 to 2014, the majority (57.2% or US$28.2 million) supported mitigation, while 39.9% (US$19.7 million) was for adaptation, and 2.9% (US$1.4 million) targeted both.
• The primary sources of climate finance for Vanuatu were the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), including its Trust Fund and Least Developed Countries Fund. The UAE focused on solar energy, the GEF on environmental policy, and Australia's support spanned multiple sectors, including direct budget support.
• The sectors receiving the highest allocations of climate finance were renewables, disaster prevention and preparedness, and environmental policy.
