CLIMATE FINANCE IN THE PACIFIC: AN OVERVIEW OF FLOWS TO THE REGION

This document provides a detailed breakdown of climate finance flows to the Solomon Islands, primarily focusing on the period between 2010 and 2014, as well as specific allocations for solar power between 2015 and 2016.

• Between 2010 and 2014, the Solomon Islands received US$42.4 million in grant or grant-equivalent finance specifically for climate change objectives. Additionally, US$111 million in Official Development Assistance (ODA) intended for other objectives was reported as having climate change as a "significant" policy objective.
• Of the US$42.4 million allocated for primary climate change objectives, the majority (62.3% or US$26.4 million) was dedicated to adaptation, while 35.9% (US$15.2 million) supported mitigation, and 1.8% (US$0.8 million) targeted both.
• The primary sources of climate finance for the Solomon Islands were the Adaptation Fund, Japan, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which includes the Least Developed Countries Fund. Funding was distributed across various sectors, with the highest contributions going toward water policy, forestry policy, food aid/food security programmes, and disaster prevention and preparedness.
• Between January 2015 and September 2016, the Solomon Islands was allocated US$6.70 million for the development of solar power through the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program for Low Income Countries (SREP).
