CLIMATE FINANCE IN THE PACIFIC: AN OVERVIEW OF FLOWS TO THE REGION

This document provides a detailed breakdown of climate finance flows to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), focusing on grant allocations between 2010 and 2014 and multilateral fund activities between 2015 and 2016.

• Between 2010 and 2014, the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) received US$ 3.93 million in grant or grant-equivalent finance for activities primarily targeting climate change. An additional US$ 2.16 million in Official Development Assistance (ODA) for other objectives was reported to have climate change co-benefits.
• Of the US$ 3.93 million specifically targeting climate change objectives from 2010 to 2014, the vast majority (99.4% or US$ 3.91 million) was allocated to adaptation. Mitigation activities received 0.4% (US$ 0.014 million), and 0.2% (US$ 0.008 million) targeted both objectives. Australia was the largest single source of finance, with the highest allocations going to environmental research and disaster prevention and preparedness.
• Multilateral climate fund data indicates that from January 2015 to September 2016, FSM was allocated US$ 0.3 million for readiness support from the Green Climate Fund and US$ 0.85 million from the Global Environment Facility for the development of its First Biennial Update Report and Third National Communication.
