SUMERNET PLUS

SUMERNET PLUS is a transboundary programme running from July 2025 to December 2029, funded by 54 million SEK from the Swedish Government. It aims to link evidence-based research with policymakers and marginalized groups to improve climate resilience in the Mekong Region. The programme focuses on three key themes: nexus interactions and trade-offs among sectors like water and energy, building socio-ecological resilience, and supporting just sustainable transitions. To achieve these goals, it will provide 34 grants ranging from SEK 150,000 to 2,000,000, conduct capacity building for various stakeholders, and facilitate policy dialogues at regional forums such as the Mekong River Commission and ASEAN.

• SUMERNET PLUS operates from July 2025 to December 2029 with a budget of 54 million SEK provided by the Swedish Government through the Embassy of Sweden, Thailand.
• The programme's regional coverage includes six countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and specific areas of China, namely Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
• The programme is organized around three primary thematic areas: exploring nexus interactions and trade-offs in sectors such as water, energy, agriculture, and forests; building socio-ecological resilience; and developing just sustainable transitions that include marginalized communities, women, youth, and Indigenous peoples.
• Implementation will involve the distribution of 34 grants valued between SEK 150,000 and 2,000,000 (approximately US$ 15,000-200,000), categorized into scoping study, rapid response, joint study, seed innovation, innovation, and fellowship grants.
• The programme intends to influence regional policy by amplifying local voices at forums including the Mekong River Commission, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, and ASEAN.
