Women's differentiated vulnerability and adaptations to climate-related agricultural water scarcity in rural Central Vietnam

The research examines how intersectional factors such as gender, class, age, and household headship create varied experiences of vulnerability regarding access to water, forestland, and credit in rural Central Vietnam. It argues that current development policies and the National Target Program to Respond to Climate Change of Vietnam fail to account for these differences, risking the further marginalization of specific groups, particularly female heads of household.

• Women's vulnerability and their ability to adapt to agricultural water scarcity are not uniform but are shaped by intersectional social differences, including class, age, stage of life, gender, and whether they are the head of the household. These factors specifically influence their access to credit, forestland, and water.
• Current Vietnamese climate and development policies, specifically the National Target Program to Respond to Climate Change of Vietnam, do not address the differentiated vulnerabilities and adaptive capacities of women. This lack of specificity risks increasing the vulnerability of marginalized groups, especially female heads of household, through 'one-size-fits-all' policy packages.
