Improving stakeholder engagement in climate change risk assessments: insights from six co-production initiatives in Europe | SEI

• The study utilized the 'impact chain method' as a standardized framework for climate vulnerability and risk assessment across six case studies. The results showed varied approaches to stakeholder involvement, leading to outcomes such as mutual learning, a better understanding of local and regional decision contexts, scientific progress, and the actual uptake of findings in planning and decision-making.
• To address remaining practical challenges in co-production, the authors recommend a participatory approach that is carefully designed yet flexible and iterative. This approach should facilitate joint learning, allow for the reassessment of stakeholder capacities and needs, and produce actionable climate services to drive climate action.
