Climate security and trade in times of multiple crises

This session brief summarizes the outcomes of the 'Climate security and trade in times of multiple crises' session held on 20 April 2023 during the Think2030 Dialogue Sweden, hosted by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI).

• The global geopolitical landscape is characterized by increasing tensions driven by competition for energy, natural resources, and food, which in turn hinders multilateral collaboration on trade and climate. There is significant frustration concerning fairness and responsibility regarding the climate transition and adaptation during a period requiring drastic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
• Henrik Carlsson, Co-Director of the Mistra Geopolitics research programme, identified three primary drivers shaping the intersection of trade and climate security: emerging technologies, geopolitical shifts and tensions, and global environmental change.
