Current knowledge of the impacts of ozone on food crops in South Asia

This report chapter discusses the need for improved knowledge regarding the impacts of ozone on agriculture in South Asia, driven by increased ozone precursor pollutants from rapid industrialization and economic growth in Asia.

• Rapid industrialization and economic growth in various parts of Asia have led to higher emissions of ozone precursor pollutants, which in turn have increased ozone concentrations.
• There is a critical need to improve the understanding of how ozone impacts agriculture in South Asia through a combination of experimental crop assessments and regional scale modelling studies to evaluate risks to agricultural production.
