This scoping report examines how global trends—including energy decentralization, affordability, mobile payments, women's entrepreneurship, urbanization, and humanitarian settings—affect gender equality and social inclusion in sustainable energy access, with specific analysis of five countries.

• Several global trends influence the achievement of gender equality in energy access, specifically the decentralization and affordability of energy services, mobile payments, women's entrepreneurship, urbanization, and humanitarian settings.
• Women in low- and middle-income countries face systemic barriers to accessing energy trends; they are 10 percent less likely than men to own a mobile phone, and many poor women lack access to the formal financial systems and consumer finance required to afford clean cooking stoves or solar home systems, despite these being the lowest-cost options in Sub-Saharan Africa.
• National outcomes vary based on policy and infrastructure: Tanzania has strong gender policies and a mobile money system supporting off-grid solar; Bangladesh uses government subsidies and loans to target universal electricity access by 2030; and Nigeria's pay-as-you-go solar market is hindered by a banking sector that limits rural access to mobile money.
