Nigeria’s Adaptation Communication to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

Nigeria's Adaptation Communication (AdCom) was developed through a participatory, gender-responsive process involving stakeholders from government, civil society, the private sector, and academia. The document aims to increase the visibility of adaptation relative to mitigation, provide input for the global stocktake, and assess progress toward the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA). The preparation was supported by the NAP Global Network Secretariat and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), with funding from the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO).

• The Adaptation Communication was created using a participatory and inclusive methodology that specifically integrated gender considerations to address the disproportionate burden of climate impacts on women, while involving civil society, academia, the private sector, and donor agencies.
• The AdCom is intended to balance the profile of adaptation with mitigation, contribute to the global stocktake, evaluate progress regarding the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), and improve the understanding of adaptation requirements.
