• China is shifting its African policy from strict non-interference toward a more active role in peace and security, as evidenced by the 'China-Africa Cooperation Partnership Initiative for Peace and Security' and a $4.5 million equipment donation to AMISOM in December 2011.
• Critics argue that China's security interests in Africa are primarily driven by the need to protect its economic investments and that it has previously violated UN arms embargos by supplying weapons to groups in Sudan, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and the DRC.
