Background note on Africa’s Current Path Energy Future to 2043

The report projects that Africa's carbon emissions from fossil fuels will increase on its current development trajectory, eventually surpassing those of the EU, USA, India, and China by 2061 to become the world's major source of such emissions.

• Based on its current development trajectory, Africa is projected to become the primary global source of carbon emissions from fossil fuels. Its emissions are expected to exceed those of the European Union in 2034, the United States in 2049, India in 2055, and China in 2061.
